No. There is no platform fee, ever. Gifts go straight from the giver to the mover — on the mover's own PayPal, or by card if they've set that up — and Move Me Fund never takes a cut. It's free to start and free to use.
Directly to the mover — through their personal PayPal.me link, or, if they've connected Stripe, as a card charge straight to the mover's own Stripe account. There is no moving company in the middle, no escrow, and no rule that holds funds until a certain date. Because Move Me Fund is never in the payment flow, gifts land with the mover the moment they're sent.
It adds two things together. Card gifts are counted automatically— when someone gives by card, Stripe tells us the amount and the bar moves on its own. If a gift is refunded, it comes back off.
PayPal, cash and cheque gifts are invisible to us.They go straight to the mover without passing through Move Me Fund, so we never learn they happened. Movers can enter that total themselves, and when they have, the fund's page says so underneath the bar. That part is the mover's own figure, not something we verified.
We call them gifts on purpose. This is people helping a friend, not a charitable donation, and gifts here are not tax-deductible. The framing matters: it gives people permission to ask for cash instead of labor.
Genuine personal gifts are generally not taxable income to the person receiving them. Because gifts are paid into the mover's own payment account — their PayPal or their connected Stripe account — it is that provider (not Move Me Fund) that handles any tax forms or reporting that may apply. We are not tax advisors, so for anything sizable, please check with a tax professional and review your payment provider's own tax information for your situation.
This answer is general information, not tax advice. We don't state specific reporting limits, and your own situation may differ.
You keep whatever you raise. There is no all-or-nothing. Your goal is just a signal to your people, and you can edit it anytime. Your fund can accept gifts for up to a year, or until you close it.
Campaigns are private and link-only by default. You can opt to make the fund public so people can discover and give. Even then, a public fund shows your first name only. Your last name and the exact moving date are never shown. We don't ask where you're moving to or from, and we never collect a street address; your story shares only what you choose to write.
Yes, and it is deliberately gated. Your help schedule is never public. Only people you share your link with, who sign in, can see times and claim a slot. We never ask for a street address, so you coordinate the meeting spot with your helpers directly, and who is helping is visible just to you and confirmed helpers.
Pick an amount on the campaign page and choose how to send it. With PayPal we take you to the mover's PayPal.me link on PayPal's own secure site, amount pre-filled. If the mover has set up card gifts, you can instead pay by debit or credit card on Stripe's secure checkout — a direct charge to the mover, no PayPal account needed. Either way you pay the mover directly, and Move Me Fund never sees your card details and never touches the money.
Right now, it doesn't. The service is free and we don't take a cut of any gift. Down the road we may add advertising or optional extras to keep the lights on, but giving to a mover will always be 100% theirs.
